ABC-ATEC Demonstrates Carbon Reduction Commitment
Awarded the "1.5℃ Temperature Control Target" Certification by Common Wealth Magazine
ABC-ATEC has actively implemented climate actions with notable carbon reduction achievements, gaining a rating of "Outstanding Performance" on the "Corporate Carbon Reduction Thermometer." On June 4th, ABC-ATEC was awarded the "1.5°C Certification."
The "Corporate Carbon Reduction Thermometer" platform was established by CommonWealth Magazine in 2022. Following scientific carbon reduction principles and using internationally recognized standards and methods, the platform evaluates the carbon reduction goals of Taiwan companies. It is the only platform in Taiwan responding to the Paris Agreement. The platform classifies temperature levels into five categories: "Outstanding Performance,""Excellent Performance,""Active Effort,""Lagging Progress,"and"No Progress." Currently, nearly a thousand companies have been evaluated, with only 20% meeting the "Outstanding Performance" criteria aligned with the Paris Agreement's temperature control goals, and ABC-ATEC is among them.
ABC-ATEC's carbon emission hotspot is Category 2- electricity usage, accounting for 72.67% of the group's total carbon emissions. To effectively reduce carbon emissions, ABC-ATEC has implemented energy management measures and actively formulated a carbon reduction strategy centered on renewable energy. This reduces reliance on traditional energy sources and enhances environmental sustainability, aligning with the company's carbon reduction strategy and demonstratinag ABC-ATEC's commitment to global climate change challenges.
In 2023, ABC-ATEC committed to gradually introducing renewable energy. The Guangzhou factory signed a green electricity procurement contract and officially switched to green power in May 2023. Additionally, the factory's self-generated solar power came online on January 8, 2024. The installation of solar panels at the Taiwan headquarters is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2024. In 2023, the group used 1.35 million kWh of green electricity, accounting for 13% of the group's total electricity consumption. In 2024, the group is expected to use 2.5 million kWh of green electricity, about 23.28% of the total consumption. ABC-ATEC continues to expand its green electricity usage, progressively achieving the goal of net-zero carbon emissions.
Besides introducing green electricity, ABC-ATEC has developed an electricity management strategy to reduce carbon emissions from electricity use. The first phase focuses on implementing energy-saving measures and reducing unnecessary energy use. The second phase aims to improve electricity efficiency, maximizing the benefit of each unit of electricity consumed.
ABC-ATEC is steadily fulfilling its commitment to environmental sustainability, aligning with international standards and the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C temperature control target, joining hands with the world to maintain the Earth's temperature rise within limits.
